Murali extends his association with Ceylinco Life
-- Celebrated off-spinner as Brand Ambassador for many new campaigns of life insurance leader --
Sri Lanka’s legendary off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has extended his association with Life Insurance leader Ceylinco Life for another year, during which he will lend his personae as a sportsman and a family man to efforts to increase awareness across the island of the importance of life insurance.
Test cricket’s highest wicket taker will be Ceylinco Life's Brand Ambassador for many distinct projects, including the Ceylinco Life ‘Family Savari' mega promotion that kicked off on August 1, 2008.
Muralitharan will also continue to be one of the elements of the company’s multi-faceted communications campaigns aimed at generating greater consciousness among Sri Lankans that life insurance is an essential safety net against an uncertain future, the company said.
"Murali’s appeal transcends age, geographical, racial, social and gender boundaries," Ceylinco Life’s Chief Executive Director R. Renganathan said. "His never-say-die commitment to his sport, his well-demonstrated team spirit and strong devotion to family values have endeared him to Sri Lankans at all levels, making him a good ambassador for life insurance."
Speaking at the extension of his contract with Ceylinco Life for a second year, Muralitharan said: "As a family man, I believe in the value of life insurance. I have also seen first hand, the efforts Ceylinco Life has made over the past year, to create greater awareness in the market of the need for life insurance. It has been a pleasure to be associated with these efforts, because I am convinced that the benefits of life insurance should reach the masses of our country."
Born in April 1972 in Kandy, Muttiah Muralitharan made his test debut in 1992 and played his first one day international in 1993. He had captured 735 wickets in 120 test matches before the start of the on-going home series against India, and has taken 475 wickets in 310 One Day Internationals.
Ceylinco Life has been the market leader in Sri Lanka’s life insurance sector for the past four years. The company reported premium income of Rs 6.8 billion for the year ended December 31, 2007. Ceylinco Life was adjudged the best insurance company in Asia for Corporate Social Responsibility in 2005, and has also twice been adjudged Sri Lanka’s Brand of the Year and Service Brand of the Year by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing.
